Sometimes when living on Orcas Island we miss our friends in the real world. Corona gave us an excuse to start making the necessary moves to connect and catch up more regularly.

We have scheduled LIVE Instagram sessions to discuss the wide world of beverages. Cider, Italy, Sake, Tasting, Trends, bring it. Broadcasting from Orcas Island to a great big planet. Every Monday and Thursday at 5pm.

Just follow us on Instagram at @doebaywinecompany and tune in at the respective time. You’ll see a “live” logo at the top. Click on it. Then sit back and watch us converse (or type out a question, or just use the little wave emoji). Very easy.

We try to keep our sessions within the 15-20 minute range. If you aren’t able to join live we’ll also post the videos on our Instagram story. Asking questions is encouraged. Have a topic you’re curious about? Send an email to cole@doebaywinecompany.com and we’ll phone a friend and extend an invitation to explore that subject. Let’s have fun!

Thursday July 2nd
5pm: Paul Peterson, Owner, Churros 101
Paul is a colleague from my days in Las Vegas where he was the beverage director for Chef Thomas Keller (French Laundry/Per Se) at Bouchon. In 2017 he left to pursue his passion, Churros! He now owns Churros 101. We’ll talk about small business, lessons he’s learned and what it means to embark on your own adventure.

Thursday July 9th
5pm: Andrew Bandy-Smith, GM & Winemaker, Antiquum Farm
Andrew and I go way back to his days at Serafina in Eastlake. He left the restaurant world to pursue a career in Winemaking down in Oregon where he worked at Shea Vineyard, Harper Voit and Soter before assuming his current role. Lot’s of topics to cover. This will be a whacky one.

Thursday July 16th
5pm: Jennifer Schmitt, Head Sommelier, Zuma Miami
Jen and I were in tasting groups together for years (and sommeliers at Seastar Bellevue!) before she left Seattle to work as a sommelier for some of the top beverage programs in Chicago and Miami. She currently runs the wine program for the Zuma group, based in London. She’ll join us from Miami to show us how she tastes wine and discuss working in restaurants during the time of Covid.
